Our story

As hardworking farm employees, Mara and Alex always aspired one day to start their own bountiful pasture. With large dreams of having an array of animals, gardens, and family, they knew producing artisanal and locally sourced products is also a way to restore the pasture’s natural abundance. At Beyond Yonder Pastures we strive to be good stewards of the land we’ve been gratefully given access to and in the process be transparent about our offerings and processes. Starting with a Mountain


Alex and Mara had a fateful encounter while working at the local ski hill Big Sky Resort. Both from separate corners of the West, but united under a common belief that good, honest food can fuel the best adventures. After a summer of working an organic orchard together in the Driftless Wisconsin area, the two set off on touring the country via working ski hills in the winter and organic farms in the summer.

With the chance to explore countless different farming operations and meeting numerous mentors that would inspire them to pursue their own farm dreams, there was no denying that Montana was calling for a return visit to set down roots and really dive deep into the local agricultural scene. We are deeply excited to share what we’ve been growing and honored to add wholesome foods to your table.

Alex also contributes as one of the head Cheesemakers for Amaltheia Dairy and Mara works with Kokoro Farms and local weddings venues. They’re constantly seeking more ways to be engaged with community action and access to clean, local foods and farms!
